Opening Day

Opening day brought along a hunt into a new spot. During Spring 2008 Turkey season, I stumbled across an oxbow lake in the middle of a small patch of timber next to the river in the bottoms. Will and I scouted it on the 11th of October and did get a few ducks off of it.

On opening morning, Tim and I setup in the fog and had a few wood duck's land at shooting time, but when they got up, the dark background caused Tim to be unable to locate them for a shot. A little bit later a single blue wing teal flew in that I was able to shoot. Bosco, with some coaxing, was able to retriever her. We had a few more pass shot oppurtunities at wood ducks that caused Bosco to get a little scared of the shooting. I don't think he's gun shy, however he didn't like the noise right next him. While I was retrieving Bosco who had run away, Tim was able to take a nice drake woodie.

We started packing up around 10:00 and got back home around noon.

Weather:
mid 30's, slight west wind, clear skies
